Anaheim California has been unable to control vandalism, graffiti tagging or tagging gang activity because the ACLU and groups sympathetic to Hispanics cite that police profile these young thugs.
The Anaheim City Council has outraged a business owner in Anaheim by sending her a $466 fine for failing to remove etched graffiti from her storefront windows. To replace the window will cost Rosa Bobbio, owner of the small upholstery shop business, $1,600.
Cities are in serious financial problems because city management lack sound fiscal management and want to transfer the policing and maintenance of graffiti to the business and private property owners. Ruth Ruiz, spokeswoman for the city, responded: “Bottom line is that we want to work with everybody to resolve the graffiti problem.”
Well! Ms. Ruiz the city should stand up to the ACLU and others that comfort and defend these young hooligans. I suggest that the taggers be put to work cleaning the city of graffiti and any money earned would be used to offset the damage that is done. Oh! would that stymie the youngsters self respect? When I was a kid a swift swat to the butt by my Dad or a stern talking to by an officer of the law straightened me out in a real fast and made me take responsibility for my actions.
Critics of the city’s fine said that the business owner should not be held responsible that she is the victim of taggers. What is next? – property owner being fined for a robbery of their premises.
Mrs. Bobbio’s window was fixed, at no cost, by Mike Speakman, a sales manager for WKRP Services in Irvine. The city dropped the fine stating, “City officials have worked hard with business owners to help stem the graffiti problem in Anaheim. “ I don’t think working hard means to fine the victim.
